2012 was a great year for paddling; not too many PFD’s, so laps seemed to be the theme for 2012. I actually only used my canoe once on a Shenandoah overnighter this year, and didn’t get around to inflating the inner tubes (I'm looking to take up this whitewater inner tubing thing in 2013). I ended u...

Might I recommend using Turkey 101, and then there is no need* for pre-cleaning!
*I haven't tested its sanitation power against the LJ at summer levels, but seems to work everywhere else.

Not te'llin - just sayin' but it looks like the Cheat Canyon might run this weekend as well. Although less likely, the Top Yough is showing signs of being an option, too. I'm all covered up but if you plan to go over there, it would awful sweet of you to post your intentions under it's own thread. ...

Something Besides the LY on 7/29

Some guy on another thread "said" it would be "awful sweet" if there was a thread for an alternative trip on Sunday, well here it is  I am personally hoping to paddle something besides the LY on Sunday (advanced level)... Cheat Canyon is nice, UY Fish-release/TY/LBS/etc ...

Re: Savage river camping?

I think I heard there is camping near the savage put in.......any truth to this? Yes, there is camping slightly below the Putin on river left along Savage River Rd. (if you cross over the savage while heading North-west on Savage River Rd and start going uphill, you went too far) I think the campin...

Re: Cheatfest '12

Ok, I'll go next.. Got there Thursday night, and got Friday started right with a run on Lower Big Sandy at 5.36 ft / 380 cfs. I think we had a group of 10, 5 of which were PFD's. Dry hair for me, no other swims from within the group that I recal :D So late lunch, and then on to the race... I said he...

I'm heading up Thursday after work, Camping at Teter's with the Cville crowd, Paddling Friday-Sunday. I'm actually planning to do the race Fri night, but will paddle something beforehand on Friday as well. I'm leading a "dealer's choice" trip on Sunday, so PM me if you're interested, and a...

I consider 600 cfs a boney minimum for this run. 800 cfs is much more enjoyable.

Beer in mind that the gauge is well downstream of the putin - so don't get too excited anytime you see it shooting up - as it usually falls just as quick as it rises.

Cheoah this weekend?

Anyone want to make a trip to the Cheoah this weekend? Sunday may be a reduced release, not to worry - should be some fallback options nearby or on way home. (WV could be my plan B - but it's looking to be a colder one ) Looking to leave Friday night (2/24) after work and come back Sunday nigh...

2011 got off to a good start, then in late June I decided to have shoulder surgery to fix an injury from Dec 2010, so I had about a 3 month hiatus from all paddling. Sadly, I didn't get around to taking the canoe out to float fish this year, and no rafting, so all my paddling days on the water this ...
