It's great you got to do so many cool creeks! I've been on all but Wills. Meadow run... The time I ran it we stopped and scouted the cascade on river left. It's difficult to scout with all the vegetation(middle of summer). There was enough water going over the lip in the middle of the creek to make ...

Maybe everyone knew something I didn't because the only person willing to come was Carrie.
Nah, you two knew something they didn't. This sounds like my kind of trip. Glad you two had a good time! Trips like that are ones you'll never forget.

Anyone can paddle on a warm, sunny, low water day...

When I first started paddling, 27+ years ago, I paddled a small portion of it. I put on in a kayak at the old stone bridge(Rt. 29-211) and paddled upstream about two miles then came back. Went down below the bridge to a log jam then came back. You will need a Park pass to park in the parking lot. Th...

Please forgive poor old Tolyho. He was just taking a light hearted poke at my"oar rig shredder" prowness. I paddle a Hyside Paddlecat (Shredder wantabee) with an oar rig. He had the good fortune to see my "empty oar rig trick" in Koontz Flume and he still marvel...

Great photo Machias! I never got to do the Lochsa River when I was in Idaho. One of these years... oar rig shredders Sorry, and I'm not singling you out but this is a pet peeve of mine. http://d26ya5yqg8yyvs.cloudfront.net/icon10.gif Those are catarafts, not Shredders. Nice video! There is an easier line on the left, at least at release levels. It's a slide with three(?) drop offs(broken off pieces of the main ledge) on the way down. Once I accidentally let myself slide backwards out of the top left eddy. Went right down the slide. Looked like I meant to do it! LOL

Just noticed on another message board a paddling buddy reported the gauge at -4". If it continues to rain all night it may be to high tomorrow, as will most everything else. I have heard reports that Skyline drive(Big Meadows) is getting snow so that will/should keep the level down somewhat, bu...

I have a bum wrist right now so I'm out for the foreseeable future but I can post up the gauge reading and maybe hook you up with other folks running it. BTW, there is an old gauge I painted at the Rt. 340 bridge, downstream, river left, on the rock out cropping. It reads 3/4' low...in other words.....

It's a great little run all things considered but I am biased...I live ten minutes from the put in have been paddling Gooney Run(darn near every time it's running) since the late eighties. It's a good step up to the intricacies of creek boating but it's no Staton's or Forks of the Tye for sure. You ...

Re: Rapidan

they launch from private property just below Kelly's ford eliminating any need for fishing licenses or boat registration. Scott I have been having this discussion on the MCC website. Since there IS a sign on the Kiosk at Kelly's Ford(a buddy who lives in Remington told me about it) stating you are ...

Nice pictures and videos! I'm a little over an hour away. It's really hard to catch the creek with enough water above the lower bridge, or at all. I've put on up there...I think three-four times. The big falls above the bridge(we called it Hoover Falls) has a real nice boof on the right at decent le...

Thanks for the info Bob! Would be cool to see those photos. I've run the upper rapidan 9 er 10 times. I was sooo stoked to see those pictures you posted of the upper rapidan a while back. It was nice to see what I looked like pre 95, 96 flood. I bike and hike up there a good bit and spent a lot of ...
