Tireless James river cleanup Labor Day Weekend

Tires constantly leach zinc, a bioaccumulator, into the watershed. This negatively impacts aquatic invertebrates, fish, and, consequently, every other organism in the James River food web and the Chesapeake Bay watershed (Ngo et. al. 2022) I am pleased to announce an opportunity to give back, not on...

OCT Wed 5/13 changed to James River (low water)

The Wednesday May 13 club paddle that was scheduled for the Piney/Tye has been moved to the James River due to low water. We plan to paddle from the Alpine canoe launch to the Glasgow canoe launch on the James at Glasgow. It is an eleven mile class 1 trip. We will meet at the Alpine launch at 10am t...

Lynchburg downtown YMCA roll practices

Here's the roll practice details as I have been told by the Aquatics Director. 2 lanes of the lap pool (81 degrees) will be open from 2-4PM on Sunday afternoons through Feb. There is a 5 dollar fee for non-members. Be sure to have your boat squeaky clean before you get there. Helmets and life jacket...

OCT Sunday 3/24 Those dam pools (may have to wait)

I have a dam pool on the James trip planned for Sunday. The consensus so far has been if we suit up in dry suits, we might as well go for something a wee bit more challenging than FLAT water. There will be a paddle Sunday, most likely in the Charlottesville-Lynchburg region. I will probably consult ...

OCT Maury River -Buena Vista to Glasgow 3/10/2013

This is the after the snow prediction, I'll skip the "dam pools" flat water run and do the super whitewater run. The snow came and went very uneventful. After scouring the river levels and my crystal ball, it looks like the most likely choice is the Maury from Glen Maury Park to Glasgow. W...

OCT Those dam pools Sunday 3/10

Those dam pools may have to wait. The upcoming weather and melt afterwards may make me turn to something with a little flow. My first choice will be Rockbridge Baths to Alone Mills if there is water. The second choice is the Tye River from Post Office (below 29) to Ruckers Run, if there is water. Th...

Both

I would prefer to paddle both sections, but I will be okay with just the upper or just the lower if that is the consensus. I like the most river possible, even with both it is not a long run. Ronnie T.

Saturday paddlers

Ted, I am planning to paddle my VERY ragged 18ft Grumman (dents, holes, and all). I can take a passenger if they are willing to listen to the clunk, clunk, clunk of what may be a rocky trip. I can bring my 16ft Blue Hole instead if you have a passenger who wants to ride with a slight bit more style....
