There will be a memorial service for Karen at 1 p.m. on Sat. at Robious Landing Park (on the James in Chesterfield County). To get there, take either Rt. 288 to Robious Road (Rt. 711) or Huguenot (Rt. 147) to Robious. The park is located off Robious Road between Rt. 288 and Huguenot and beside James River HS. The service will be followed by a potluck lunch at Karen's house (directions will be available at the service). An obituary will be in tomorrow's newspaper (Richmond Times Dispatch).

This afternoon in bright sun, 60's and almost calm wind, about 200 people attended the riverside memorial service for Karen. Most were not paddlers...showing her ability to bring together the diversity of her community involvement. 12 speakers spoke from art, soccer, horses, JROC, the batteau, paddling, MesaVista school, and her family including her father.

Although many admitted to the loss of their HERO, the service was a celebration of her life and how we were all richer for her presence in our lives. We heard a never ending song of love for you.

One speaker said: "May the last day of your life be the best day of your life". As Karen paddled the James River last Saturday with her friends, it probably was. We all should be so lucky.
